Please someone explain to me..

Okay, someone please please explain to me why you all like this guy so much? It just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm obviously not a Potter- Head or whatever it's called. I just don't see why he's so popular.
I tried to read the first book when I was younger and it bored me to death. It was like twenty pages of a guy walking to work or something. I just got bored and gave up on it. I watched the first movie years ago. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. I mean, what do you all like about him so much? Why are the books good? Sci/Fi Fantasy really isn't my favorite genre to read, maybe that's why.

I just don't understand what's so great about them. Everyone is buzzing about the new movie.

But what I don't understand, is why you all hate the Twilight books.

These are some of the best books I've ever read, Breaking Dawn was just amazing. Notice, I said BOOKS, NOT MOVIES. I HATE the movies. They are stupid, boring, cheesy, annoying, lame, and the list just continues. They don't do the books justice and they make everyone hate the series! I hate Kristen Stewart as Bella. She is the worst Bella ever! She has no emotion at all and always looks like she's depressed, even at happy moments. Robert Pattinson is an okay Edward but not the greatest. Taylor Lautner is great though.. mmm...

And same with Star Wars, why do you guys like that so much? I hate it.

But, all you Potter-Heads seem to like Narnia and The Hunger Games as well, which I love.

I have seen the movies but I haven't read the books. The movies are great! I love the littlest girl.. I can't remember her name..

These I absolutely loved. I'm so excited for The Hunger Games movie. I hope it doesn't suck.

So, why should I read or like this book? What is good about it? Let me know in the comments!

I guess there's two type of people in the world, one type who like Harry Potter, and one type that like Twilight. I'm on the Twilight side...
For now..
Maybe you can convince me otherwise... leave comments! Your obsession confuses me!

Eek! Such a hard question to answer. I think the best answer is that I grew up with Harry Potter. I loved to read as a kid, and I was immediately sucked into "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". Which led me to "the Chamber of Secrets", and "the Prisoner of Azkaban", and "the Goblet of Fire", and and and...

But you're not quite right about "there's two type of people in the world, one type who like Harry Potter, and one type that like Twilight." I love both! I mean, I love Harry Potter more - probably because of the memories attached for me - but I still really enjoyed the Twilight saga.

Oh, and it's Lucy. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, sons of Adam and daughters of Eve. :) Yes, I love every series in this post except Star Wars, which I've never seen! ;D

But I think you should try the Harry Potter books again and give them a chance, now that you're older. They're really great books, and I absolutely love them. Let me know what you think!

Confession time: I've never read Harry Potter. Ha! Butttt...I'm a fan of the films. The world Rowling created is fantastic and I love the fact that the movies got better each time, as did the acting. I do want to read the books, because, like you, I started the first one back when they first came out (I think I was about six at the time, maybe seven), before the movies, and I didn't care for it too much. But I think they deserve a try for me since I enjoy the movies. And I'm hoping to get them soon, so I'll review them.

As for Twilight, I didn't care for them too much. They just weren't my kind of read. I read them as an "exchange" so to speak. A friend read Vampire Academy (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED--ahem...excuse me...) and I had to read Twilight. They just weren't for me, and I think the movies are horrid, to be frank. The acting is terrible, and it blew up to the point where I can't stand to hear the name. You can't even go into a bookstore without a section only for Twilight and Twilight-related reads.

Now, I'm not a huge Potter fan, but I'm old enough to remember when the first movie came out and before. It's really only been blown up with the movie was coming out. Afterward, it calmed down. Twilight...still hasn't calmed down. I think it just tried to become the next big thing instead of just trying to make a good movie, like HP did.

I like Narnia, but not too much. Fantasy really isn't my thing, but the first movie was good. It's the only one I've seen.

I'm not looking forward to The Hunger Games film, to be frank. I'm 99% sure it's going to turn out like Twilight, where they play up the romance and market it to the point where you won't be able to walk anywhere without seeing something about it. At least Harry Potter took its time with the films and got the fans excited only when it was coming out. Not like crazy. And I respect that.

Though, I've never seen Star Wars. haha! :)

Great post! We should try reading HP together!

I'm actually not a potter-head. In fact I have never watched the movies or read a single word out of the books because I'm not aloud to. You know, the witchcraft and all.

I hate the Twilight movie with all my heart, and I don't read the books because, again, I'm not aloud to, and also because I think vampires are dumb.

I don't get why everyone likes Starwar either. I have only seen like 30 minutes of one of the movies and got really bored and went to sleep.

I hope the Hunger Games movie doesn't end up like Twilight because if it does, I WILL START A FREAKING REBELLION!!!! Grrrrr..... To the people who crated Team Peeta and Gale: I will sue you till all your moola is gone because you're stupid!

Oh, I'm so frustrated right now because of The Hunger Games becoming Twilight.

I think that people hate Twilight because compared to both books (including Potter, though I haven't read it, only a friend has...) the writing was NOT good. I read all of Twilight and for me it was a mistake for more then one reason.

Twilight COULD have been a good book, if someone else had written them. It was mostly the writing that was suckish. And after that, hearing about it so much and KNOWING that the writing was so bad was too much for people (me included).

Star Wars on the other hand... I have to admit, the only reason that I have NOT seen or read Star Wars is because I know for a fact that it is good. Maybe not for someone that doesn't like those types of books, but for people who do, it would be great. And I am not in a very good mindset to be obsessed with anything right now, lol.

That is just what I think. As you can see, other people have said other things about it, haha. ;) Just personal choice, I guess, and a lot of people choose not to like Twilight.

Star Wars is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness, it's just the best! It's the classic story, set in space. You have action, romance, politics, and good vs. evil in one saga. It's a story of one man who was a hero and then fell. It's the story of his son, who grew up with no idea of who his father was. And then he goes and helps set his father free from his captivity, fulfilling what his mother believed in before she died.
It's really hard for me to figure out exactly why I love Star Wars so much. But there's something in it for almost everyone. :)
To be honest, I thought Star Wars was extremely boring when I first watched it. When I watched the first one again when I was older, I was immediately taken in. You should give them a try!

Thank you all for commenting! I may give it a chance :)

@Converse- I know, I'm going to be mad if it becomes Twilight! GRR!

Hmm. I think one of the main reasons why the Harry Potter books are so great is the world-building J.K. Rowling arranged. It's so inclusive, and even though it's a wizarding world set in our own, it's somehow super-realistic.

I definitely agree that the first chapter of the first book is boring. But it gets better as the book progresses, and each book tops the last. There are some great characters in the series, too, though I don't like Harry all that much.

I like the Harry Potter series, but I'm not one of those die-hard fans. And I'm absolutely Anti-Twilight; I read the first book, hated it, and refuse to acknowledge anything else connected to the series.

So far, I haven't seen the Star Wars movies. It's because I want to read the books first, and I haven't gotten around to finding them at the library yet.

You didn't remember Lucy's name!?! I'm so disappointed in you! haha :D

And you're wrong...I haven't read or watched Harry Potter or Twilight...so there is a third type of person lol. But I think if I was allowed to watch Harry Potter I would like it...maybe. haha

I LOVE Lord of the Rings, and Narnia, too! The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favourite of the three Narnia movies!

@alaw I like Voyage of the Dawn Treader too!

Okay I heart Star Wars. Maybe because I'm more of an action fan than romance. I think people don't like SW because the whole sci-fi makes them think 'weird!'

I love Harry Potter. I'm really into fantasy so it just fits in. It also has lots of the elements of a good story: action, adventure, romance etc. And all you can remember is some guy walking to work? Umm.... yeah... I just really like it

I'm not a Twi-hard to say the least. I didn't like the books except for the first one and the movies were torture.

Narnia rocks and so does Hunger Games!

Yeah, I think you're more on the teen/YA fiction side of the reading spectrum, whereas I'm on the sci fi/fantasy side. I never read books about teen girls and their school and their boyfriends, etc. because I don't think I would find them interesting.

I love Harry Potter and Star Wars. The others, meh. I have a weird sense of humor and I find Star Wars books and Harry Potter hilarious. I'm also a sucker for a fast moving, suspensefulish, well-written plot.

@Jenna-you should really see the SW movies first. I mean, they came first. And there are like a billion Star Wars novels. ;) I know I've read at least a hundred.

We have very different tastes, my friend. ;)

Oh well....<3 your blog anyways. XD

Hey, this is Kenley Doonan from Inkpop.
I have to answer this, because "Harry Potter" is one of my very favorite things in the whole wide world.
I really think you might want to give him another chance.
Here's my long list why:

1. The writing is amazing. I'm going to be a bit mean here, but Stephanie Meyer has absolutely NOTHING on Rowling. Rowling builds up the plot of Harry Potter brilliantly. She starts off slowly with the first few books, and then gradually they get more and more complex and amazing.
2. Character Development. This is the most important aspect of a story. It doesn't matter if the plot is amazing when the characters are flat and unchanging. In my opinion, there is no change (besides human to vampire, or human to "werewolf") in the characters of "Twilight". Bella is only whiny and clumsy. In "Harry Potter" you can watch Harry, Ron, Hermoine grow up before your eyes. They learn things about love, friendship, and family that are just amazing, that I have never learned about in any other book.
3. There is a real sense of conflict in "Harry Potter". There is real danger. There is something to fight for. Rowling isn't afraid to "go there". She isn't afraid to sacrific characters for the story, unlike Meyers who never fully finished the climax of "Breaking Dawn". I was so disapointed when there was no fight scene in "Breaking Dawn"! That was so anticlimatic. The inability to commit to a story, and let some characters go, is an immaturity as an author. I know that it's probably hard to see all of this right now, I was in love with "Twilight" when it first came out when I was about sixteen or seventeen. Then one day, I read one again and wanted to die. Maybe it's an age, or maturity thing.

All in all, "Harry Potter" is just an amazing adventure. It is unique and creative. The characters are dynamic and realistic. It's hard for me to imagine them not actually being real people. I'm devastated by the ending of the series, I truly am. I cried so much in the theatre.

Don't judge "Harry Potter" by the first book, or first movie. You can't really start to judge them until the third one. Because each book and movie grow and develop with the age of the characters. Since they're eleven in the first one, it is written simply and gently. As they get older, the books get longer and more intense. Not to mention, the first movie is old. By the time you get to the new ones, your mind will be blown. They're incredible.

Also, I think "Twilight" is a blight on the face of paranormal stories. Vampires do not sparkle. You should read, "'Salem's Lot" by Stephen King, or anything by Anne Rice. Those are real vampire novels.

//END RANT. ;D

I am on both sides of the "war." I suggest that you try the books again because you said that you were young and so was I when I first read it. It nearly bored me to death too but I read it anyway because my parents loved them so much. Later in the book it gets much more exciting so don't worry about that. Just trust me on this and try it again. I also suggest you watch the other movies because you cannot judge an entire series based on just one. Once you read/see the rest of them is when you should decide whether or not you like them. So much more happens in the rest of the books. So much that it's hard not to want to find out what happens next.

Oh yeah and I really hate Star Wars too haha.

The reason I really don't like Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Twilight is because 1. The only people I actually know that like Star Wars are my 1st grade brother and his little friends, so...it would kinda be weird to get into it with them, I guess... 2. My sister said the 1st Harry Potter book was just too confusing with all their magic terms, or whatever, and it got really boring, she said. 3. Twilight is WAY too sappy, I hated the book. But don't even get me STARTED on the movie. UGHHHHH. The only thing that I like that you mentioned was The Hunger Games. Hopefully it doesn't become like a Twilight or Harry Potter, with crazy obsessed fans and terrible movies.

I love Harry Potter because it is very funny, well-written, and original, and the characters are believable and well-developed. It has great themes too, and is really more about good vs. evil than about casting spells. I think you should give it another try, because I've heard a lot of people say that they didn't like it at first, but if you wait until Harry gets to Hogwarts, then you'll like it.

As for Star Wars, well, what's not to like? It's an epic saga about redemtion, romance, betrayal, and again, good vs. evil. It has a great balance of everything that makes movies awesome, and I would highly recommend it. If you don't like the older movies, try watching the newer ones first, that's what made me fall in love with Star Wars.

I'll be honest, I really don't like Twilight. I read 2 1/2 of the books and saw two of the movies, but I didn't like either. It's actually a good story, and I like the writing in the books, but my problem is the characters. Bella annoys me to no end. She is so clingy to Edward, and in the second book when he leaves and she's all depressed . . . ugh. It's kind of unrealistic to be that attached to a boy. I don't really like anyone else either except for the werewolves.

I love Hunger Games, though!
