Reader's Ramble- If I Stay

I'll just warn you all now, this isn't going to be a long one. I really don't even feel like writing a Reader's Ramble for this book, but I will anyway...

For this Reader's Ramble I will be reviewing If I Stay by Gayle Forman.

"Mia has no memory of the accident that changed her life. This inexperienced 17-year-old only recalls riding on that slippery Oregon road with her family, then, in an instant, seeing herself lifted from the twisted wreck."

Plot- I really don't even know. She gets in a wreck and is caught between life and death and spends a day having flashbacks. I guess the goal was for her to stay alive, I don't guess, I know it was. But it's more flashbacks than anything. So this book doesn't really have a story line because nothing major happens in the present except the wreck and her boyfriend Adam coming to visit.

Setting- Oregon. I don't really have an opinion about it.

Theme- I'm not too sure. I guess just to move on from tragedy, fight for your dreams, fight to stay alive, love.

Characters- They are the one thing I actually liked about this book. I like Mia, she is a likable and relate able character but hardly feels any pain even though she lost her whole family. Which bothered me. Adam, her boyfriend, I loved. He just seems like a sweet guy and I loved how he and Mia met each other and fell in love. Kim, her best friend I like as well, how they became friends was really interesting.

Overall- Most boring book I've read this year. Matched by Allie Condie was pretty boring, but this was worse. It was pretty much all flashbacks of stuff that happened in her life which bored me to death. Like, I don't care what happened to you ten years ago, just wake up and experience things now. She didn't even feel any pain or even seem to care that her whole family died. Like did that ever occur to her? At the very end she said she started to feel pain, but I'd defiantly be more upset if my whole family died.

You can probably tell from my lack of enthusiasm to write this review, I just couldn't get interested in it. I never connected with or cared for main character. Yeah I liked her, but not how I liked Liesel from The Book Thief.

It just wasn't my cup of tea, and I won't be wasting my money on the second one.

One thing I did like is the characters as said above, and the ending. Adam made the ending good and just what happened, I liked.

And because of that, it gets 3 out of 5 stars. Just okay, nothing too exciting. Just decent.

Yay I'm done, now off to read Room by Emma Donoghue. Hopefully this one will be more exciting.

If this is the first Reader's Ramble you've read of mine, they normally aren't like this. I am usually more enthusiastic and detailed. I just really hated this book.

Ugh, I have heard so many mixed reviews about that book. I'm pretty reluctant to read it.

Yeah there are a ton of mixed reviews, I'm just one of those people who don't like it, but maybe you aren't like me.
