Questions about NaNoWriMo

I just joined the NanoWrimo website. I know National Novel Writing Month isn't until November but I felt like joining now. Of you're on there, add me. My name is PaigeW (like inkpop).

I'm just really confused on how it all works. They sent me that giant email like they promised and I still don't understand. I know you must reach 50,000 words to "win". But my question is..

Say I wanted to use a story I already started, like Flawed for example. Which only has about 9,500 words currently. Could I use that novel to try and reach 50,000 with it?

OR.. do I need to start clean off at ZERO words on a whole new story in November? That's where I'm confused. So if anyone knows and could let me know, I'd really appreciate it.

And what are those region things they're talking about? Does where I live determine the writing region I'm in? GAH.

And what is the GiftTool URL?

I want to be prepared this year, that's why I'm asking these things now. Please if any of you know answers to my questions, please leave comments! Remember to add me on there! I need writing buddies :)

Okay *flexes typing fingers*
First off: To properly do NaNoWriMo, you start with a new novel. Cheaters will start with novels they've already started, but true NaNo-ers use completely new ideas. ;)

The whole regions thing is where you live. xD its just to connect you with other NaNoWriMo-ers in your area. They normally have an ML who coordinates events (like write-ins, kick off party, and a TGIO- thank god its over- party.) There isn't one for every town, but more for a group of towns. So, you can just pick the region closest to where you live.

I'll look for you! I'm camisado211. :)

I added you on there! I think..

Thanks so much for the info! After I finish Flawed, which will probably be in like August, I'll have to start thinking of a good idea for november! Now in the email they said to just write and not worry about editing it at all, is that what you do? I don't want my novel to look like a 6th grader tried to write it unless everyone else's does too haha.

And then starting on Nov 25 we just add what we have into that "Word Count Validator" and it counts it for us? Do we split it up into chapters or just post the whole 50,000 word document there?

I hope u see this reply comment haha, thanks for your help though! :)

Pfffft. Everyone's NaNo novel looks like a kindergartner tried to write it. I didn't even go back and read any of mine till December.

And yea. Don't worry about the whole word count thing, it'll become clear once NaNo starts. :)

Aaah, Qui got to the questions before I did. Yeah, Qui's right. XD I didn't go to any of the events in my area. And my novel is painful for me to read. But it exists! XD
